West Reading Dining & Drink

Where to eat and drink
The best dining and drinking is concentrated in West Reading, Wyomissing, and Shillington — technically separate boroughs immediately adjacent to the city of Reading (source: reading-pa-research.md). The most pleasant walkable strip for visitors is the West Reading Penn Avenue district, roughly the 400–700 blocks of Penn Ave, lined with boutiques, breweries, cafés, ice cream, and seasonal festivals (source: reading-pa-research.md).
Fine dining

Note: the restaurant's own site lists "146" Tulpehocken Ave versus the dominant "148" on directories — confirm before relying on it (source: reading-pa-research.md).
- The Peanut Bar — a Reading institution founded in 1924, at 332 Penn St since 1933, and the self-proclaimed first place in the country to put peanut shells on the floor (started 1935). peanutbar.com (source: reading-pa-research.md). Because it predates Mom Chaffe's, the Peanut Bar is the older of the two (source: reading-pa-research.md).

Caveats
The Reading Distilling Guild (a downtown rum distillery/tasting room) and The Speckled Hen Cottage Pub both appear closed as of 2026 and were excluded from the listings — verify if interested (source: reading-pa-research.md). Note that Rebel Hive is a meadery, not a distillery (source: reading-pa-research.md). Several coordinates and addresses in this area are approximate — confirm the exact pin on Google Maps before relying on it (source: reading-pa-research.md).
